DIY Lemonade Jade

DIY Lemonade Jade

Ahhh, it’s Friday and the weather this week has been beautiful! It feels like summer and since it’s my weekend as well I thought I’d share this quick and easy drink that I created the other day… I’ve been drinking them for a few days now! I made them for myself, my partner and a friend and the name Lemonade Jade came up cause they loved them so much. Thought I’d share them with all of you! I made it an alcoholic beverage for me but you can also make it “virgin” as well and it’s just as delicious!

What you’ll need:

Vodka, lemonade, frozen mixed berries, ice cubes, a shot glass.

What to do:

1. In a martini shaker (or any other cup that has a lid you can close to shake it) put in about 4–6 ice cubes. Add 1 shot of vodka.

2. Add 2 shots of lemonade.

3. Add 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries.

4. Put the lid on and shake, shake, shake!

5. Pour into your favorite glass and enjoy!

This will be enough for one serving

* I made the “virgin” version the same way without the vodka (obviously). With this version the only thing different that I did was let all the ingredients sit in the container in the fridge for 15 mins so the berries had a chance to flavour the lemonade. Shake, shake, shake & serve!

I think this drink is going to be a summer favorite!

What are your favorite summer drinks? I love playing around and seeing what I can come up with! Post your favorites and share what your favorites are! Have a great weekend everyone!

DIY Charm Bracelet

DIY-Charm Bracelet These DIY Charm Bracelets are super quick and super fabulous! I saw these all over Australia while I was traveling. I think I missed the trend while it was in North America but they are really great bracelets anyway! For this tutorial I used some Tourmaline stones that I had left over from the prayer beads necklace tutorial I did not too long ago (here). I also made a few more with other stones I had as well. You can wear them on their own or stack them with other bracelets you already have. So, let’s get ready to make them!

DIY#13-Charm Bracelet b

What you’ll need: beads of your choice, stretchy beading cord (1 mm thick), G-S Hypo Cement (beading glue), at least 1 charm (more if you want), 1 jump ring, & jewelry pliers.

1. String your beads, with enough beads to cover your wrist once around, onto the stretchy cord. Cut the beading cord leaving about 2 inches of cord on either side of the beads. Tie a knot and pull tight. Tie an extra knot for extra hold and pull tight. You can secure it with fancy knots like a surgeon’s knot (just do a google search) but I’ll leave that part up to you.

2. Cut off the excess beading cord strands close to the knot. Apply a small amount of the G-S Hypo Cement and let it dry.

3. With your pliers, open up the jump ring and place your charm on. With the jump ring still open, place it around the knot you made on the bracelet. Close the jump ring with your pliers. You’re done! Super simple and it leaves so much room for your imagination! Play around with the style, size and colour of beads and charms! And most importantly, have fun!

Here’s To A Wonderful New Year!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you and your loved ones!

This Holiday Season I have so much to be grateful for. I have a wonderful, loving and supportive family, 2 amazing dogs, a job that pays the bills and affords me the luxury of doing what I love to do on the side, a roof over my head, amazing food to eat, craft supplies to last me a lifetime and an abundance of love!

I am also grateful for an amazing opportunity I have to go to Australia & the South Pacific to learn from a woman I’ve admired for years! So I’ll be away for about a month. No DIY’s for that time, but I will be updating the blog & Instagram while I’m away! I plan on keeping my eye out for cool fashion trends and things to DIY for when I get back! I’m going to visit some of Sydney’s craft stores and also find a few local yarn stores. I’m going to attempt to keep myself busy on my flights by teaching myself how to crochet, that’s if my crochet hook doesn’t get confiscated as I go through security!

Happy Holiday’s from Handmade Jade and I’ll catch up with you all in the New Year!

Easy DIY Camera Strap

Camera Love ♥

I’m getting ready to go on a trip and I wanted a camera strap that was nice, rather than the one that my camera came with. The solution…Camera Accessories! As I was searching for some ideas, I came across a popular diy by Bri Emery at Design Love Fest * find her diy here *

I tried one out that follows the one from her diy. The photo below is the first one I tried. Fabulous & Easy!

DIY Camera Strap

The second one, picture shown below,  I tried bc I wanted to make an ombre one with some of the pretty emroidery floss I have. The stitching looks great and it’s pretty simple!

I’ll show instructions for both. See which one you like best OR mix both ideas together!

DIY Camera Strap

Things You’ll Need:

Painted Camera Strap: 1 meter of 1.25 inch cotton webbing (strap), 2 swivel hooks (or any 2 hooks that will do the same thing), 2 split rings (or 2 key chain rings), paint & paintbrush, masking tape, needle & thread

Ombre Camera Strap: 1 meter of 1.25 inch cotton webbing (strap), 2 swivel hooks (or any 2 hooks that will do the same thing), 2 split rings (or 2 key chain rings), scissors, 3 colours of embroidery floss, needle, leather scrap pieces, rivets & rivet tools (for embellishment and extra hold), cotton twine and some glue to hold down the twine

DIY Camera Strap How To

 Painted Camera Strap Instructions:

1. Measure the strap by putting it around your neck and figuring out the length you want it to be. Then add an extra 2 inches (1 inch for each side to fold and attach to hooks) & cut it. Secure the end of each side to each hook by folding an inch of the strap over the ring of the hook and sewing with your needle & thread. Sew a few rows so that it is safely secured.

2. Lay the strap out flat and with the masking tape block off the areas you want to paint. Paint each section with your chosen colours, take the tape off while the paint is still wet and let it dry fully.

Ombre Camera Strap Instructions:

Get your leather scraps and cut to desired length, wrap the end through the ring of the hook and secure it with a rivet. Add additional rivets as you like.

2. Cut small pieces of twine and arrange them on the strap. Add a very small amount of glue to make them stay put while you sew around them. With your chosen colours of thread, sew starting at the back of the strap just below the cotton twine on the front. Pull the thread through and insert the needle above the the cotton twine going to the back now. Keep sewing moving along the cotton twine until it is covered. Tie off the thread in the back and repeat on a few more rows, switch colours when you’d like the colour to change.

Have fun with it and experiment! Either way it’s a simple and inexpensive way to add some fabulousness and style to your camera. Camera accessories!
